Raw Banana Kofta

Raw banana is a perfect substitute for potato. Jain families who do not eat potato, can use raw bananas for making pav bhaji, kofta, cutlets etc. Today I am posting recipe of raw banana koftas. It can be served with green chutney, tomato ketchup or imli chutney.

For Filling –
2 big sized raw bananas
1 medium sized green chilly (chopped)
½ tsp Mustard seeds
½ tsp Cumin seeds
1 tsp Red Chili powder
1 tsp Coriander powder
1/8 tsp Turmeric powder
Salt to taste
¼ tsp Amchur (dry mango) powder
¼ tsp Garam masala
1 tbsp Chopped Coriander
1 tbsp oil + Oil for deep frying

For Batter –
2/3 cup Gram flour
½ tsp Red Chili powder
¼ tsp Carom seeds
Pinch of Turmeric powder
Salt to taste

Boil raw bananas until they are soft (give atleast 8-10 whistles), then remove the skin and mash them. Add red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt in mashed bananas. On other side, heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds. When mustard seeds start crackling, add green chili and saute. Then add mashed bananas mixture, amchur powder, garam masala, chopped coriander and mix well. Keep this mixture aside to cool. Divide it into 12 portions and make balls.

In another bowl, add all the ingredients for batter with enough water to make smooth thick paste. Heat oil in another pan, dip the masala balls in the batter and deep fry on medium heat/flame. Serve it hot for better taste.
