Masala Vada

½ cup Chana Dal
1 tsp Black pepper
1 tsp Cumin seeds
1 tsp Coriander seeds
1 medium sized Onion chopped
1 tsp grated Ginger
1 green Chili chopped
2 tbsp Chopped Coriander
2 tbsp Rice flour
Salt to taste
Oil for deep fry

Wash, rinse and soak chana dal for 2 hours in normal water or for 1 hour in hot water. In a grinder add cumin seeds, black pepper, coriander seeds and grind coarsely. Now coarsely grind chanda dal in the same grinder and keep in a bowl. In the same bowl, add onion, green chili, grated ginger, rice flour, coriander, salt and mix well.

Divide the mixture into 8-10 equal portions and shape them into a round-flat vadas like tikkis. Heat oil in a pan on a medium flame and fry vadas until both sides are golden brown in color. Drain on absorbent paper and serve hot with Green chutney.
