Daliya Khichdi


1/4 cup Wheat Daliya (broken wheat)
2 tbsp Moong dal
1/8 cup Peas
2-3 Florets of Cauliflower (cut in small pieces)
1/8 cup Chopped Carrot
2 Beans cut into small pieces
1 small size potato
1 small size onion
Half Tomato
2 tbsp Ghee
1/4 tsp red chili powder
1/8 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
Salt to taste


Wash dal, daliya and soak it for 15 minutes. Wash all the vegetables and finely chop tomato, onion and potato. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds. When it starts crackling, add onion and saute for a minute. Add all other vegetables (except tomato) and saute for another 2 minutes on low flame. Add tomatoes and saute for 2-3 minutes. Then add red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, salt and mix them well. Now add drained dal-daliya and saute gently for 2 minutes, so that dal-daliya is well coated with spices and ghee. Pour 3 cup hot water into it and stir well. Cover the pressure cooker and cook until 5-6 whistles. Your dish is ready, serve it with a dollop of ghee.
