Drumstick Soup


2 tbsp moong dal
2 medium size Tomatoes
4 Drumsticks
1/4 tsp Cumin seeds
4-5 Curry leaves
2 cloves Garlic
1 small size onion
1 Green chili
1/4 tsp Black pepper
1/4 tsp Garam masala powder
1 tbsp Ghee
Salt to taste


Wash dal, tomatoes and drumsticks. Cut drumsticks into about 2 inch pieces. Boil dal and whole tomatoes with 2 cups of water in pressure cooker up to 4 whistles. Also boil drumsticks with 3 cups of water for 10 min on a medium flame or till it becomes soft. Take out the boiled drumsticks and scoop out the pulp in a bowl. Remove skin of tomatoes and blend it with dal in a blender. Add drumstick pulp with this mixture and sieve it. Add the remaining water which was used for boiling drumstick.

Heat ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds. Add chopped curry leaves, chopped garlic, chopped green chili and sauté. Now add chopped onions and sauté. Lastly add drumstick pulp mixture, black pepper powder, garam masala powder and salt to taste. Heat it until one boil or till the desired consistency is achieved. Serve it hot.
