Sarson Ka Saag

Punjabi flagship dish…….”Sarson Da Saag”

Makki Di Roti te Sarson Da Saag


100 gm Spinach
100 gm Mustard leaves (Sarson)
2 tbsp Maize flour
1 Medium sized onion
1 Medium sized tomato
2 Cloves Garlic
½ inch Ginger
2 tbsp Ghee
½ tsp Cumin seeds
A pinch of Asafoetida
2 tsp coriander powder
1 ½ tsp Red Chili powder
1/8 tsp Turmeric powder
Salt to taste


Wash and roughly chop spinach, mustard leaves and pressure cook for 2-3 whistles. Then blend this mixture to a smooth puree. Now add maize flour in the puree and let it boil for 10 min. Heat ghee in a pan, add ginger garlic paste and sauté. Add onion paste and sauté again. Add tomato puree, coriander powder, red Chili powder, turmeric powder, salt and mix well. Let the gravy fry for 2-3 minutes till it leaves ghee. Then add boiled veges puree and mix well. Add some more water to get the desired consistency. Let it cook for 4-5 minutes. Your dish is ready, serve it hot. Needless to mention, it tastes best with Makki Ki Roti or Tandoori Roti.

Note: Above ingredients are for 2 servings.
