Green Chickpeas Pulao

Another variety of Pulao…..

Green Chickpeas Pulao



1 cup Basmati Rice
2/3rd cup Green Chick Peas (Hare Chane)
1 large sized Onion
2-3 black peppercorns
2-3 cloves
2-3 Green Cardamom
2 Bay leaf
1/4 tsp Black Cumin
1/4 tsp Cumin Seeds
2 tbsp Ghee
2 tsp Red chili powder
2 tsp Coriander powder
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
Salt to taste


Wash/Rinse rice and soak it for 30 min. Heat a big thick bottom pan and add ghee into it. Add all the whole spices and fry them. Add sliced onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes on low heat/flame. Add green chick peas and again sauté for 2-3 minutes. Then add red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, salt and mix them well. Now add drained rice and sauté gently for 2-3 minutes in a way that rice gets well coated with spices and ghee. Pour 3 cup hot water and stir well. Cover the pan tightly and let it cook on a low flame. Keep checking in between whether rice is well cooked or not, if water is absorbed you may need to add some more water until the rice is well cooked. Once the rice is cooked then turn off the heat, your dish is ready to be served….. Add few drops of lemon juice for better taste.

Note: Above ingredients are for 2 full meal servings.
